Offering Compliments Could be Powerful
1. They ought to be genuine and come from your heart. If you give compliments just to motivate employees, they'll think what you are saying aren't authentic, and you won't get the value you intended.
2. Be specific. Don't simply say "good job using the presentation." Let them know specifically think about the presentation was effective. Did they keep the audience engaged? Was this content i'm all over this? The greater specific you are, the greater the likelihood they'll continue this same behavior.
3. Tell the recipient inside the moment. If they are dressed especially nicely today, handled litigant situation masterfully, or you've noticed them focusing on improving their skills inside a specific area...anything, tell them right them. The strength of the compliment is incorporated in the present, not a couple weeks from now after they won't even remember whatever they did.
4. Let them have freely and often. You cannot use compliments once in a blue moon and hope it helps with employee motivation. You need to let them have freely and often. That isn't to state every day, or even each week. Noticing what other people are doing and allowing them to know is impactful.
5. Encourage others to provide compliments. It is usually nice to hear from your boss which they think you probably did something wonderful. It's exciting to know it from others...colleagues along with other managers. Should you create a culture where workers are inspired to recognize one another's performance, it makes it effective beyond imagination.
6. Be careful how frequently you compliment. Yes, it is critical to recognize employment well done, but you don't wish to dilute value of the compliment. Employee motivation will probably be lessened should you compliment every little thing. Recognize the big accomplishments and share your emotions on them.
Offering compliments can go a long way toward improving employee motivation, when they are used properly and at the best time. You might have trouble accepting compliments from others which means you believe it is equally difficult to give them. If you recognize yourself here, just remember: You are not complimenting on just anything, but on items that the truth is as significant. Begin small when you have to, but start doling out those compliments.
